Good Game Well Played

Participative Workshop and Interactive Installation at documenta fifteen

Good Game Well Played is a participative workshop and interactive installation at documenta fifteena. Up to four players use the same keyboard to explore themes of collectivity and community through narrative elements and playful interactions.

The work draws on methods such as pen-and-paper role-playing and Bernard de Koven’s writings on community building and transformation, combining them with the Lumbung concept from documenta fifteen, which aims to facilitate an alternative economy based on collectivity, shared resource development, and equitable distribution, grounded in values such as local roots, humor, generosity, independence, transparency, frugality, and regeneration.

The title Good Game Well Played references De Koven’s book The Well Played Game, developing the idea of the play community and the adaptation of rules during play to meet the needs of all players.

All characters, artworks, rules, sounds and texts were made in participatory work/playshop format with artists of documenta fifteen and students of Kunsthochschule Kassel: Timbil Budihardjo, Fransiskus Xaverius Geger, Cheng Ka Man, John Chow Ho Fung, Tommy Ari Wibowo, Hananingsih Widhiasri, Marian Abboud, Maissa Alameddine, Ahmad Hafid Hidayatur Rohman, Mohammad Fabian Aldiano, Sasha von Berlepsch, Jan-Hendrik Gebbe, Giuliana Brede, Vivi Frank, Laura Swanton, Sven Mehlhorn, Dafina Leposhtica, Lena Risse
